The Lobster Tournament 401 is a very easy to use ball machine, perfect for use at home. It has no battery option, and is quite bulky, so would not be ideal to transport to the local tennis club.
Quality
Used at home, you require a convenient power outlet and extension cord, but is otherwise very easy to use. When used in static mode, the ball pitch is very consistent and great for grooming a single shot. It has horizontal and horizontal+ vertical oscillate options, and a very simple mechanism for changing frequency from 1 ball per 3 secs, to 6 or 12 seconds depending on how energetic you feel.
So far I have not had any service issues and the machine has functioned faultlessly for 6 months, being used at least 3x/ week. The only downside I can see relates to the height adjust mechanism which is slightly flimsy and if mishandled doesn't look like it will fare too well.
If you are planning on using this at home, it is a very good option, but if you want to travel with the machine, consider a battery operated option. (Posted on 12/03/10)
