Ball Machines

The best ball machine for you depends on how you plan to use it!

Here's some basic things we recommend looking for based on your experience level:

Beginners and casual players:
Look for easy setup, basic oscillation, and consistent ball delivery.

Intermediate players:
Choose a model with topspin, slice, adjustable speed, and horizontal oscillation.

Advanced players or coaches:
Consider a machine with programmable drills, app control, and both vertical and horizontal oscillation for realistic rallies.

If you’re unsure, explore our Ball Machine Comparison Guide or contact our team - we’re happy to match you to the right model.

Key features to consider:

  • Ball speed: Determines challenge level (look for 100 - 130 km/h for advanced play).
  • Spin control: Topspin and slice add realism to your training.
  • Oscillation: Horizontal and vertical movement keeps rallies unpredictable.
  • Drills: Look out for everything from in-built drills to fully customisable programmable drills for players looking to get the most out of their training sessions.
  • Ball capacity: Most machines hold 120 - 150 balls.
  • Battery life or AC option: Depending on whether you train at home or on public courts.
  • Remote or app control: Adjust settings easily from the other end of the court.
  • Support: Machine warranty and customer support

Most modern machines use two counter-rotating wheels that grip and propel the ball.

  • When the top wheel spins faster, you get topspin.
  • When the bottom wheel spins faster, you get slice.

This design mimics real shot physics and produces consistent spin across shots.

With regular care, a quality ball machine can last 10 years or more. The key is to:

  • Keep it clean and dry.
  • Use good-quality balls.
  • SLA battery machines should have their batteries recharged regularly, even when not in use (there's no need for Lithium LiFePO4 battery machines).

Replacement parts and servicing are available through Tennis Warehouse Australia.

Oscillation determines how much variation the machine produces between shots.

  • Horizontal oscillation: Moves the ball side to side, great for footwork.
  • Vertical oscillation: Varies depth, mixing short and deep shots.
  • Combined or “triple” oscillation: Randomly changes both angle and depth, replicating real match play.

For the most natural rally experience, choose a machine with both horizontal and vertical oscillation.

Use standard-size, pressureless tennis balls for the most reliable results.

  • Avoid oversized red junior balls (they can jam).
  • Replace worn or fuzzy balls regularly.
  • Pressureless balls keep their bounce for years and deliver consistent performance.

We stock suitable pressureless balls for all machines - we also offer discounted ball machine packs with everything you might need to get started on court with your ball machine.

Yes - it can be a very convenient feature. Remote or app control allows you to:

  • Start/stop the feed from the baseline.
  • Adjust speed, spin, or oscillation mid-session.
  • Run pre-programmed drills (on compatible models).

Spinfire’s smartphone and smartwatch connectivity is a great example of how intuitive modern machines can be.

Battery life varies between models, but anywhere between 3 - 8 hours of play time depending on settings, speed, and oscillation use.

If you train often, consider a model with external or removable batteries for easy charging, or adding a fast charger for shorter recharge times.

Yes - all ball machines sold by Tennis Warehouse Australia are supported nationwide.

Each brand provides its own technical and phone support, and in most cases, issues can be diagnosed and resolved over the phone.

If a hands-on repair is required, you may need to send your machine to the nearest service centre. We recommend keeping your original box to make shipping easier.

Most chargers take 8 - 12 hours for a full charge.

Fast chargers (available separately for most models) can restore full charge in around 3 hours.

Yes. We offer trade-ins on all brands of ball machines - even if you didn’t buy your original one from us.

We’ll assess your machine and provide a competitive trade-in value toward a new model.

We also buy and sell quality second-hand machines, giving you flexible upgrade and resale options.

Yes - many models can run on AC power, either as a standalone unit or using an AC adaptor accessory.

This option is ideal if you play at courts with nearby power outlets or want to avoid battery maintenance.

Store your machine indoors or undercover, away from rain and direct sunlight.

If you play often, consider a protective cover to keep dust and debris out of the internal parts.
